Designation of a Welfare Equipment Provider (Long-Term Care Institution)

A welfare equipment provider is an in-home long-term care institution that sells or rents welfare equipment to long-term care beneficiaries, and under Article 31 of the Act on Long-Term Care Insurance for Senior Citizens it must be designated as a long-term care institution by the head of the city, county or district to provide and claim benefits. Since much welfare equipment is a medical device, a medical device sales (rental) business report must be completed at the competent public health center before applying for designation, and facilities such as a display and trial space of 23.1㎡ or more and a cleaning, disinfection and repair space of 56.2㎡ or more must be secured. After submitting the in-home senior welfare facility installation report and designation application documents, the provider must pass the review of the city, county or district designation review committee.

Procedure

Procedure

Procedure type
  • Certification Difficulty High

Designation or certification after document review and on-site evaluation against the criteria set by the agency. The result depends on the evaluation score or review outcome.

  1. 01

Medical device sales (rental) business report: Since much welfare equipment is a medical device, complete the medical device sales (rental) business report at the competent public health center before applying for designation. The report certificate is part of the designation application documents.

  2. 02

Secure office and facility space: Secure a dedicated office, a display and trial space (23.1㎡ or more), a cleaning, disinfection and repair space (56.2㎡ or more), and storage and rental space. The cleaning and disinfection space and storage space can be shared with other operators, so decide on sharing before signing a contract.

  3. 03

Prepare installation report and designation application documents: Prepare the in-home senior welfare facility installation report, long-term care institution designation application, business plan, budget and operating rules. The figures in the business plan, budget and facility status must match each other to reduce requests for supplementation.

  4. 04

Respond to the designation review: The city, county or district long-term care institution designation review committee reviews the business plan and operating capacity. Key review items differ by local government, so write the business plan and operating rules to that area's standards.

  5. 05

Start of benefits after designation and renewal: Benefits can be provided to beneficiaries and claimed only after designation. The designation has a validity period, so undergo the renewal review before it expires.
