A business that plans and reproduces game products is a game production business, and a business that imports games or supplies them while managing the copyright is a game distribution business; both register with the city, county or district office where the business is located under the Game Industry Promotion Act. A game production business attaches a statement of production facilities and equipment, and a game distribution business attaches a business plan, to the registration application, and a person for whom 1 year has not passed since business closure or cancellation of registration cannot register for the same type of business. After registration, important changes such as the representative, location or production items require change registration within 30 days, and closure must be reported within 7 days. Game products to be distributed must receive a rating classification from the Game Rating and Administration Committee before production or distribution.
Procedure
- Registration Difficulty Medium
The authority checks whether the statutory registration requirements, such as facilities, staff and capital, are met before issuing a registration certificate. Registration can be refused if the requirements are not met.
1. Determine the business type
Planning and producing games yourself is a game production business, and importing foreign games or supplying them while managing the rights is a game distribution business. If you do both, register each. Production by the state or local governments, production by educational institutions for their own training, and production by public institutions for publicity do not require registration.
2. Prepare the application documents
A game production business attaches a statement of production facilities and equipment to the application, and a game distribution business attaches a business plan. If the business premises are leased, submit a copy of the lease. The official checks the corporate registration certificate and building registration certificate electronically.
3. Registration with the city, county or district and issuance of the certificate
Apply to the city, county or district office with jurisdiction over the business premises and receive the registration certificate. A person (including the representative and officers of a corporation) for whom 1 year has not passed since a business closure order or registration cancellation, or who is within a business suspension period, cannot register for the same business type.
4. Game rating classification
If the purpose is to distribute a game or provide it for use, obtain a rating classification from the Game Rating and Administration Committee (or a designated self-rating business operator) before production or distribution. The committee decides within 15 days from the application date, and you submit materials such as a video of the main game progress, an executable game and a document on game content information.
5. Change registration, succession and closure
If the business operator (the representative for a corporation), business location, factory location or production items (production business), or handled items (distribution business) change, submit a change application within 30 days from the date the reason arose.
